The Expedition style spray deck (left) and the Whitewater style spray deck (right).

To accommodate the back bands and thigh straps that are now included with the Atlin, Skeena, and Telkwa packraft kits, I’ve added a new option to the spray deck kits.

If you choose a “Whitewater” deck, the cockpit opening will be moved forward 16.5 cm (~6.5″) compared to the original decks.

The “Expedition” option is the original cockpit opening location, which allows you to lean your backrest against the packraft’s rear tubes.

Both paddling positions are comfortable, but the Expedition deck offers more seating options, so you can stay comfortable if you’re paddling for many hours. The forward Whitewater position moves your weight closer to the center of the packraft, and when combined with the thigh straps and back band, the Whitewater position gives you more paddling power and maneuverability.

You can still use the back band and thigh straps with an Expedition deck, but you may need to make some minor modifications to your spray skirt to accommodate the forward whitewater seating position.
