I’m not really looking at self bailing at the moment. Here in Tasmania the water is always cold, especially in the creeks and rivers that start from the mountains. I’ve just ordered a two piece suit to ensure I stay dry (and therefore warmer).
I have attached an image of a floor I am wanting to build. These are about 150€ each and postage. So fo…[Read more]

Hi Damo, the only suppliers I’m aware of are ExtrimTextil in Germany, Seattle Fabrics in the US, and Aliexpress in China. I didn’t like the fabrics from Seattle Fabrics (melting point of fabric too similar to melting point of coating), and the reviews of the fabrics on Aliexpress are pretty bad (the coatings easily delaminate). In your case the…[Read more]

Hi just wondering if anyone knows of a decent supplier for extra fabric. I’ve looked around various suppliers, but no real luck with anything decently priced or fitting the requirements. I’m wanting to make a few inflatable floors/seats.
I’m located in Australia if that helps, but I assume a local supplier here will be impossible to f…[Read more]

Hello Packrafts Builders.
I have started a DIY project related to Packrafts. I’m building a life raft/rescue raft. Similar to the ones used in aviation. But I want it more packable and maybe more focused on sustaining 1-2 person. So a hybrid Packraft/life raft.
(I’m right now figuring out the best self-inflating mechanism. There is the popular…[Read more]

So it took about a week to build my Telkwa. Sure I made a few errors – overheating certain areas – accidentally touching areas of TPU that I shouldn’t have touched. But I am super happy with how it turned out – only 2 small leaks at completion that were fixed promptly with a touch up using the heating iron.
I would definitely make some c…[Read more]

Cool – I’ll be interested to know how it works out. I’m sure lots of other people experience the same thing and I wonder if what works for my paddle works for others. Cheers

Hi Thanks! it is very clear, no need for pic — I never thought that feathering the blades would make a difference, but I’ll try it (I have whitewater blades, by sheer coincidence, even if I am strictly a flatwater user). I might still get a 240 paddle even if feathering my 210 paddle improves it, on the assumption that greater length and f…[Read more]

I use a 240 cm paddle and it does drip a fair amount if I leave the blades unfeathered (blades at the same angle), so I don’t think a longer paddle is necessarily the solution, but it could help. I feather my paddle to 30 or 60 degrees so the top blade is flatter when the low blade is vertical in the water, and then water doesn’t run off the top…[Read more]

Hi All,
I have a 210cm paddle, and I hate the amount of water it drips on me and on the raft. I was wondering whether a 240 or even 250 length paddle would decrease the amount of water the paddles drip on me, because I would not have to lift them up as much as I paddle.
Does anyone have any experience on the matter? would a 240/250 length p…[Read more]

Hi,
At the following, links I understand that alpackaraft, advice no more than 2.5 psi. Fabric and construction similar to any DIY project. So why not exceeding 1 psi, to 2psi or more if I can carry a small pump and achieve a stiffer and better responding packraft? Is it a matter of the heat welding seams or …[Read more]
