People frequently ask if I will offer advice or help them design or prototype something they’re working on, either as a business venture or as a DIY project. As much as I would probably enjoy helping you, I must decline.

Please understand that:

  1. I receive a lot of emails, and helping my customers with their DIY Packrafts is my first priority, so please do not be offended if I don’t give you the help you requested. It’s nothing personal – I simply don’t have time.
  2. I don’t share any technical information about my materials, suppliers, or production methods. I used to post this type of information online until someone started a copycat DIY packraft business with a website so similar to mine that some customers thought it was me. “I promise I would never do that!” you say. Probably not, but evidently there are people who will, and how am I to tell you apart?
  3. I am living proof that you can figure this stuff out yourself if you devote enough time to it. If you’re in a hurry then you can consult a designer or engineer who specializes in helping people create new products, production processes, etc. (I am not one).

Hi Matt, I’ve precut material from you to build a lightweight seat and an ordinary seat as well. Both of them have the oval hole für the inflation nozzle in the middle of the seat area.
In your buoild instruction video you show on about sec 00:53 a text “This valve hole is centered – yours is offset”. In my case this is not so. Do you recommend to close the hole in the middle of the seat with a patch and make another offset hole into the seat fabric to mount the inflation nozzle instead? I can imagine that there’s a reson for changing this location. If I want to make an offset hole where must it be (location sketch drawing, plesae )?
All the best, a great week and kind regards, Ruedi from Switzerland

p.s. Your precut cut kits are simply amazing! Love them!

Hi Ruedi, I think you’ll find that the holes are offset slightly (by a few cm) towards one end of the seat or the other so they’re not right on the fold line… please check and let me know if they’re not. Thanks!
