Just wanted to get an idea of what others may have experienced in receiving their order while shipping is disrupted due to Covid.
Matt shipped my order (2 x Telkwa) using Canada Post from Smithers on February 10. But it seems to be stuck at the airport in Vancouver since Feb 22, either before passing customs or after, en route to Australia.
I understand Australia has such limited incoming flights that this is probably normal. I’ve just been reading a few stories about how poorly the global system is handling shipping at the moment, losing packages which only surface again months later at a local auction for unclaimed post.
For those who are about to place an order, it may be worth using a courier/freight forwarder because I understand couriers have their own relationships with domestic customs. I looked into using a Canadian forwarder – ShipbyMail – who quoted around CA$100 by using expedited DHL courier. This worked out to be about the same cost as the Canada Post shipping that Matt provides, after accounting for the cost of posting the leg from Smithers to the freight forwarder within Canada, so I didn’t bother. But in hindsight, even though the prices may be similar, you may get a more reliable service.
