To combat spam, I regularly delete users who have not made any posts, so if you are a newly-registered user and you are not going to post in one of the other topics right away, please say “Hi” below to prove you are not a spam bot.

If you are already a registered customer, this is not necessary.

    Thanks!

      Hi,

Whether I am a bot or not is a deep philosophical question. I don’t think I am, but how can I know for sure?

It’s a good question, and one that I can’t answer, but only spam bots are currently banned, so certainty isn’t necessary. If you are a spammer, you will be banned regardless of whether you are human or bot (if there is even a real distinction between the two).

Have plans to use your method to make hand crank generator AC/Heated inflatable bivy sack…….that does float like a boat on calm water.

      Hello!

I’m new to forum and to packraft making. I’ve just welded the bow seam of Skeena (took me 1.5 days), with a couple burned spot. I’m going to glue them up as well as the seam… and maybe some patching if needed…

      Hi,

my name is Daniel, I’m from switzerland and startet packrafting about 2 years ago. Our firt big trip was in greenland for 18 days without any resupply. We used to take an canoe (was fun as well) but always needed a car to get to the starting point and find a way back. And no hiking in between, except maybe a few kilometers.

Now I want to build me a packraft and do some minor changes on my existing packrafts (tie-points, T-TIP).

Happy Thanksgiving! No bots here, just an interested packrafter. I have a KokoP Nervana with TiZip & splashdeck.

I already have my whitewater…but it is heavier for obvious reasons. So…I think for $200, I might try an ultra light (packs smaller & weighs less than 2#). I want one for accessing, fishing & crossing mountain lakes…I already have my whitewater…but it is heavier for obvious reasons. Many times the best camp sites & fishing holes are “across the way” away from everyone. It would be great for that especially with a cargo zipper.

Then if it turns out well & I feel good about out…I may build a whitewater version.

      Hi

First of all, I’m sorry if my messages aren’t understandable, because I’m French and I’m not fluent in English, so I use a translator….
For now, I have just ordered a kit of fabric samples, but I need some tips to choose 2 kits to assemble to do bikerafting & camping on several days in couple.
I hope to be able to carry out this project despite the difficulty of translation in more…

Inflation-Dry bagSub-2Kg kitWooden form with hole for valve installationHi every body,
First, a very big thank you Matt for making this available!
I completed my Ultralite packraft and also assemble a sub-2kg kit with all that is needed to go (including an inflatable vest). I’m planing on doing Run-raft an Para-raft (paragliding) with it! Very exited about the new possibilities of this kit!

A few contribution: I added a hole in my wooden form to help assembling the valve and I also used spray adhesive to fix the masking tape on it rather than using more tape…it it nicer and you can use all of the surface (I also trided double face tape and it doesn’t work..the heat melts it and your left with a long cleaning job!).

I installed a second valve on my inflation bag instead of the tube provided so I can screw it to the packraft when inflating it. A little modification on the valve allow it to be used reverse…. I also put a roll-top closure on it and it can be used as a dry bag. Lastly, I added a square bottom so it is easier to capture air…(just too more seames in the bottom after bag is done.)

      Cheers from Quebec!

      Hello,

      I am not a bot.

I am interested in this fabrication technique for  boats  other than packrafts.

I poked around the site looking for the max psi this technique can support but the closest I found was the inflation bag which suggests low pressure.

I guess it depends on 1 or 2 sided TPU and the seam overlap.

Can folks point me to any answers ?

      Thanks,

      supguy

Welcome! I haven’t done any high pressure testing, but yeah, I think it will depend on the factors you mentioned plus the design of the inflatable object and how the forces are distributed along the welds. Cheers!

      Hi All,

Received my kit a few weeks ago.  Thank you Matt for creating this packraft option.  A Jingda iron has arrived and been modified flat.

My educational background is organic  chemistry so I am curious about gluing joints.  A quick google search shows THF, DMF and DMSO as good solvents for TPU.  Of the readily available urethane adhesives, stabond, clifton and HH-66, I have HH-66 in stock.  HH-66 uses acetone, MEK and toluene as solvents.  Only Clifton uses THF.

First trial, HH-66 shows excellent adhesion.  Point of failure was the TPU bond to the fabric not the glue joint.

Hi. Andrew here. Interested in packrafting, and I like working with my hands, since my work is entirely working with my brain. Plus I always think I can make something better (for me) than what is commercially available, even though I am frequently proven wrong.

      Hi,

I’m Mike, and after roughly a year of deliberation I have purchased a 2-person kit to accommodate my big frame.  Really looking forward to putting this together, also equally nervous of futzing it up.

      Cheers,
