There’s no step in the DIY Packraft kits where that’s required, but in theory you could use a hot air welder.

Thanks for showing us, Christian! Your packrafts look great and it is good to know about the hot air soldering station – your seams look excellent!

Sorry for the confusion – I guess I need to make this clearer somewhere (or maybe several somewheres).
The lighter fabrics (e.g. tube fabrics, seam strips, inflation bag fabric) are coated with TPU on one side only, and the woven fabric is exposed on the other side.
The heaver fabrics that are used the in packraft floors are coated with TPU on…[Read more]

I’m not sure, but regardless, I always recommend purchasing a fabric sample pack so you can compare fabrics directly.

There are lots of packrafting videos online, but most of them focus on the paddling and don’t show much of the hiking and camping part. I prefer videos that have a bit of a story to them, so I decided to try […]

I really like that video. Great pictures and good music and I’m with you, I also like this mixture of backpacking, nature and water. You have an awesome backyard!

There are more parameters to consider than just denier and TPU thickness, so I would get samples of any fabrics you are considering and then do some heat sealing and destructive testing to see which one performs best relative to your needs… it’s not a simple question, so I can’t give you a definitive answer.

Wish you a very enjoyable and safe trip. Please tell us more about your route! Would love to do something similiar in the future.
My Twelka and Two-Person packrafts are nearly finished (will post pictures when they are). I love to build these, so I’m eagerly looking forward to order two more kits (Skeena and Ultralight) in september.

Matt (Admin) replied to the topic Self bailers: water line and water level? in the forum DIY Packrafts 4 years, 4 months ago
Holes in the floor will lower the waterline somewhat. The amount will depend on a few factors, such as packraft model/size, paddler weight, and weight of gear carried. The best way to find out is to make a small hole in the packraft’s floor (where you plan to place one of the drain holes), load up the packraft with your typical gear, and then sit…[Read more]
