I was at Fabricland the other day and did a double take when I saw a mini iron – looked like the widths of the packraft seams, already had the bottom perfectly flat, and is available in Canada. Kinda wish I had this when I did my Skeena (I used an Aliexpress iron that I sanded down). I have no idea if it works, but reports on it look pretty g…[Read more]

Barbara started the topic Drysuits for Packrafting in the forum DIY Packrafts 3 years, 7 months ago
Which drysuits are people finding most comfortable/appropriate for packrafting? I plan on paddling my Skeena primarily in Rockies alpine lakes, with maybe the odd class 1 once a season. It looks like Alpacka had a drysuit more geared towards packrafting some years ago, but not anymore. Ideally I’d like one with the following features:
– Se…[Read more]

As this seems to be an older posts and Aquaseal UV doesn’t appear in the shop anymore, are you able to confirm whether this is still the quickest curing glue you’d recommend for a field repair kit?

Barbara started the topic Biggest Fails in the Field? in the forum DIY Packrafts 3 years, 8 months ago
I’m curious what anyone has encountered for repairs or biggest repairs in the field. I’m expecting small leaks due to imperfect construction, but are there serious fails anyone has encountered in the field? Like a massive tear, a full seam bursting, things like that? I don’t know why, but for some reason I can imagine a weak point on a seam (m…[Read more]

Barbara commented on the post, A DIY Packraft Logo? 3 years, 8 months ago
The scoring and cutting out of letters would definitely be tedious, especially when one tackles this near the end of the project and just wants to get on the water. I’ve been looking into print options – getting a logo printed onto some clear material that will stick to the TPU. Not sure what material would stick, so been playing around with…[Read more]

Barbara commented on the post, Packraft Kits Are Available Now 3 years, 9 months ago
Thanks for the notification. Ordered a Skeena within minutes of receiving it, and a friend ordered a Telkwa afew hours later. Curious how many orders you received on day 1 to maybe have an idea on when they might ship. Ready to build this :-).

Barbara commented on the post, Packraft Kit Availability Update 3 years, 9 months ago
Thank you for the update! I’ve been checking constantly to see if the kits are back in stock as I want to get going on a Skeena in February :-). Will you have it in the red fabric? And I take it the seams and seat will be black?
I’ve also been searching everywhere for a leather iron. No luck on Alibaba, Amazon, local hobby shops, etc.…[Read more]

Wow, thank you for taking the time to respond with all that detailed information! I think I just spent over an hour on your website and Insta :-). I think this basically confirms my first inclination to go with the Telkwa and looks like you went with the medium (51” length). I measured myself sitting against the wall, 42” + 1” for shoes +…[Read more]

I can’t believe that I only found this website a week ago. Been reading virtually everything on it since then and feel like I have found my future adventure vessel :-). I currently paddle an inflatable Aquaglide Chelan HB as I live in a condo and don’t have storage for a hard shell kayak. My main objectives are mountain lakes (live in Ca…[Read more]
