Description
This seat and backrest are exactly the same size and shape as the standard DIY Packraft seat and backrest, but the ultralight versions are made with lighter ripstop fabric so the backrest weighs approximately 50 grams (1.76 oz) and the seat bottom weighs approximately 100 grams (3.5 oz). Compared to the standard DIY Packraft seat and backrest, that’s a combined weight reduction of about 200 grams (nearly half a pound).
I have been testing ultralight seats and backrests for several years, including on my 30-day packrafting expedition and other multi-day trips, and I can confirm that the ultralight fabric is strong enough for everyday use in this role.
Switching to an ultralight seat and backrest is an obvious choice for people like me who weigh every piece of gear before deciding if it’s worth carrying.
Each kit contains:
- Pre-scored black 115 GSM ripstop fabric for making the seat bottom and backrest
- Two top-up valves for inflating/deflating the inflatable seat bottom and backrest
- 450 GSM fabric for making strong attachment points

Notes: When purchasing a standard weight packraft kit, the ultralight seat and backrest cannot currently be substituted in place of a the standard weight seat and backrest; this kit must be ordered separately. As of 2022, the Ultralight DIY Packraft kit includes this ultralight seat and backrest kit.
Tip: The backrest also makes a great camping pillow! Add velcro stickers to your backrest and sleeping pad to stop it from moving while you sleep.
