Update: Gustav’s detailed fabrication instructions are posted here!

If you’ve ever tried fishing from a packraft, you know that it’s nearly impossible to hold a fishing rod and paddle at the same time. Gustav K. has come up with an ingenious solution to this problem – a lightweight and flexible rod holder built in to the packraft’s tube. Check it out:

A piece of thin-walled PVC pipe slides into the sleeve for rigidity and can be removed when it’s time to roll up the packraft. Check your plumbing supply store – this lightweight push-fit pipe is used in sink drains. Photo by Gustav K.
This airtight sleeve is sealed into a hole in the packraft’s tube. The end of the rod holder sleeve is tied to an anchor point at the bottom of the packraft’s tube so the fishing rod can’t lean over too far. Photo by Gustav K.
The green tabs in this picture and the black tabs (below) are offset to ensure airtightness, and Seam Grip is applied just to be sure. Photo by Gustav K.
