First Fabric Shipment Arrived!

Finally, the first fabric shipment is here! That’s the good news.

The bad news is that there isn’t enough fabric here to fulfill all of the pre-orders (or any new orders), and due to more production delays at the factory, the larger fabric shipment won’t arrive for a few more months (likely late 2022 – exact date unknown).

The limiting resource now is the fabric I use to make the packraft floors. The floor shapes can nest together somewhat when I lay out the patterns on the fabric, and each packraft model/size has a different floor shape, so it would be really difficult to calculate exactly how many orders I can fulfill with the available floor fabric, and that means I won’t know which order will be the last one I can fulfill until I’ve used up that fabric – I’ve looked at the numbers and my best guess is that the cutoff will be an order I received in April, but at this point that’s just a guess.

Also, I’m disappointed to see that the manufacturing process left minor cosmetic flaws on one side of the packraft floor fabric – you can see in the photos below there are some little ripples in the TPU. Fortunately it’s only the floor fabric, and it appears mainly along one edge of one side of the fabric, so I’m able to orient the packraft floor shapes to ensure that most of these spots will be hidden inside the finished packrafts. The ripples won’t affect the strength or the airtightness of the fabric, but if you’d rather not have them in your packraft and/or you don’t mind waiting until the main fabric shipment arrives, please ask me to set your order aside until then. The factory tells me they’ve figured out how to avoid this, so the next batch shouldn’t have these spots.

I will be hard at work for the next weeks and months turning the new fabric into packraft kits and shipping out as many pre-orders as I can.
